Bike Course

The bike course for the Half IM leaves the transition area and left onto Myers Chapel Road, past the golf course on the left to hwy 69 and left. Your now headed to the NC, Ga state line. The first right turn after entering Ga (339, Crooked Creek Rd). Stay on this road about 3 miles until it comes to a "T" in the road, (hwy 66) go right there. You'll cross back into NC and come into Waryne NC. As you come up to the main intersection you can only go left or right (old hwy 64, there is a store, gas station across the street at that turn) you go left there. Continue up old 64 going West (about 1.5 miles) to Beach Cove Road, go right there. This is the beginning of the biggest pull on the course. Ride up this hill and stay on the main road up and down the back side. There is one point on this road as you start down the back side that looks like it goes to the right, but it actually stays to the left. There are painted arrows on the road there. Continue down to the main hwy (64) and go straight across. It's actually more of a dog leg, but goes straight across Hwy 64 onto Qualla Rd. Stay on Qualla Rd for about 3.5 miles where it comes to a "T" (small store across the street) go left there onto Tusquitee Rd (rt 1307 sometimes called Woods Rd). Stay on this road, no turn for several miles. Pass Downs Creek to Cold Branch Road and go right there. Stay on Cold Branch until Hwy 64 then left there. Stay on 64 west ( newly paved and a nice shoulder for riding). Go about 4 miles down and there will be a right turn that goes back on Vinyard Rd (then 100 yds to Old 64) headed west about 4 miles to a bridge on the left (High Bridge) go left over the bridge headed for Hiawassee, Ga on hwy 175. You'll cross from NC to Ga in a few miles and then come to a light in Hiawassee, GA (it's about 6 miles from the bridge to the light)and hwy 76. (McDonnell's is right there) Go right onto hwy 76 for about 4.5 miles to light at Ga hwy 17 (marked hwy 69 in NC but its the same road) Cross back into NC. In less than 1 mile you turn right on Myers Chapel Rd, pass the Golf course on right and back to rec.park and transition area on right.

It look and sounds hard, but it's a pretty easy route to follow and the roads are scenic and lightly traveled for the most part.
